Title IX Investigator Tier 2 Class: Dating/Domestic Violence and Stalking (DVDVS) Investigations

Title IX Coordinator Track

These classes are appropriate for Title IX Coordinators. It is suggested that Title IX Coordinators take the classes in the Coordinator Track in order of the Tiers (Tier 1, Tier 2, etc.) unless they have received other Title IX training that covers similar content. In that case, Title IX Coordinators are welcome to take any of the available classes in the order that suits their needs and schedules. Title IX Coordinators are welcome to take any classes in the Title IX Investigation Track as well.

Title IX Investigation Track

These classes are appropriate for Title IX Investigators. It is suggested that Title IX Investigators take the classes in the Investigation Track in the order of the Tiers (Tier 1, Tier 2, etc.) and so on unless they have received other Title IX Investigation training that covers similar content. In that case, Title IX Investigators are welcome to take any of the available classes in the order that suits their needs and schedules. Title IX Investigators are welcome to take any classes in the Title IX Coordinator Track as well.

General Information

The DSA Title IX team has trained over 10,000 Title IX Coordinators, Investigators, Hearing Officers and Advisors across the country and is well-known for delving into the practical application of Title IX. The DSA team, comprised of seasoned practitioners, and all have served as Title IX Coordinators/Deputy Coordinators and Investigators for institutions of higher education. As further changes to the required processes are made by the Office for Civil Rights, those changes are immediately incorporated into all relevant DSA classes.

Tier 2: Title IX Investigator Class: Dating/Domestic Violence and Stalking (DVDVS) Investigations

Class Description

D. Stafford & Associates offers an 8-hour DVDVS Investigations training class. This class is designed to provide an in-depth, comprehensive understanding of investigating incidents of alleged policy violations related to domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking in higher education from start to finish with an emphasis on complying with applicable Clery Act and Title IX regulations and guidance.

Some of the key topics that will be covered include:

  • Review of relevant laws, regulations, guidance, and case law
  • Specific considerations when investigating DVDVS, including power and control
  • How to conduct predominant aggressor determinations
  • Conducting fair and impartial investigations in consideration of industry best practices

Who Should Attend

This class is appropriate for Title IX investigators and other administrators/staff conducting administrative investigations into claims of domestic/dating violence as stand-alone offenses or in conjunction with an allegation of sexual misconduct, including personnel in campus police/public safety who are involved in conducting these types of administrative investigations.

Certification/Recertification

Attendees of this class will receive a certificate of completion from D. Stafford & Associates. Certification verifies attendance at this class and can serve as an institution’s documentation that the attendee has received training that addresses issues related to sexual assault, including how to conduct an investigation and hearing process that protects the safety of victims and promotes accountability.

Persons who successfully complete this class will be eligible to enroll in the Online Dating/Domestic Violence and Stalking Recertification Program to help meet the annual training requirement of the Clery Act, as amended by the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act of 2013.

Investigators are encouraged to attend both Title IX Investigators Tier 1 and Tier 2 classes to address investigation of sexual misconduct, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking to fully meet the annual training requirement of the Clery Act for persons involved in investigating or adjudicating these cases.

Faculty

This training program will feature expert faculty who serve or who have served as practitioners on college and university campuses throughout the country in the areas of behavioral intervention and threat assessment, student conduct, Title IX, human resources and legal affairs.

Logistics

This class is an 8-hour class (with time built in for breaks).

Virtual Classes: The live, virtual classes are held:

  • 2 consecutive days from 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm Eastern Time each day.

Current In-Person Options

We are not offering any in-person classes scheduled for this individual Title IX Investigator Tier class in 2024. However, DSA is offering a 2 ½ day in-person course combines Tiers 1, 2, 3, and 5 of Title IX Investigator Tier classes.
